Even though the price of gas is astronomical taking family trips by car is much cheaper than flying and you can take advantage of roadside attractions. Traveling with children is always a challenge and even Moms and Dads get bored and tired of being cooped up in a car for hours.Here are some tips to help keep the kids happy and help parents keep their sanity.And besides,ever you enjoy, family holidays are a chance for everyone in the family to get reacquainted and spend quality time together. It's a chance for parents to really talk with their teens and find out what's going on in their lives. It's important to keep the communication lines open, and a family holiday is a good time to do that. Having a good relationship with their parents is one of the most important factors in keeping teens out of trouble.
1.Find out what the kids would like to do and eat and plan accordingly.
2.Kids will appreciate being included in travel plans. There's a good chance they will choose a theme park or the beach if those are among the options.
3.Kids will be happier on family vacations if they have snacks, drinks, and entertainment. Few kids enjoy a long ride in the car! Try to provide individual CD players or hand-held video games.
4.Sometimes kids enjoy the ride more if they can help you follow the map. This is an educational activity for them as well
5.Sometimes it works well for a child (depending on the age) to take a special friend along on family holidays.
6.While on family holidays, If kids are uncooperative or behave improperly, try to deal with the problem in private.Neither parents or children like public embarrassment.

3. Use the internet to reserve a rental car. Ah, the internet, what other good can it provide? Yes there are budget car rentals on the internet that can give you a better bargain. Aside from that you can easily get upgrades and depending on the season, at least one rental company is bound to have a special offer that can help you save money, plus, you can rent a car in the comfort of your own home, beat that!

I went to the Federal Department of Transportation to see what they had to say about safety and find out about road conditions. Not only did I find the specific information that I was seeking,I found a whole section on byways to travel and some of the most amazing scenery. The National Scenic Byways Program is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration. The program is a grass-roots collaborative effort established to help recognize, preserve and enhance selected roads throughout the United States. Since 1992, the National Scenic Byways Program has funded 2,181 projects for state and nationally designated byway routes in 50 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.
